‘People getting jobs on fake certificates’
Srinagar, Jan 22: The Gujjar community of Fakir Gujri is up against government on distributing fake Schedule tribe (ST) certificates to some undeserving people against hefty packages.
Some wealthy communities of the area have succeeded in obtaining fraudulent ST certificates from District Srinagar revenue department.
“These people are Pahari speaking and have changed the revenue records of their original castes like ‘Lacchi’ to ‘Gujjar Lacchi’ and ‘khan’ to ‘Gujjar khan’,” said Ab Rashid Gujjar Bajran, deputy Sarpanch of Fakir Gojri.
Recently the local Panchayat listened to the fake certificate issue and drafted an application in the name of District Development commissioner (DDC) Srinagar Farooq Ahmad Shah in which they demanded the investigation regarding fake certificate scandal issued since 1980’s.
“These people are economically sound inhabitants in the village ‘Nagbal Dara’ and have provided wrong information to the department through their influential move,” claims Gujjar community.
The biggest problem caused by using these fake certificates is that these people take up the jobs and other benefits which are reserved for the Gujjar community.
When contacted the cell number of the concerned Naib Tehsildar given on government website ‘srinagar.nic.in’, it says ‘it is not available’ and the concerned Tehsildar said, “I’m not the concerned official.”
The whole Gujjar community has requested to the concerned officials to investigate the Scandal with top priority. They have also asserted that if government fails to investigate the issue early on then they will be left with no option other than to start a long protest drive.
When contacted additional DC, he said “We have not received any such complaints yet but will look into the matter if anyone comes to us.”
