2 hurt, many detained
Srinagar, Feb 7: At least two employees were injured and several taken into preventive custody as Police Saturday used force against daily wagers working in various government departments who were demanding regularization of their services.
Protestors assembled under the banner of J&K Casual Daily Wagers’ Forum (JKCDWF) at Pratap Park here and tried to march towards LalChowk to press for their demand.
However, police contingent deployed around Pratap Park didn’t allow them to proceed. “After a minor scuffle between police and agitating daily wagers, police detained few marchers after dispersing the gathering which created chaos at the busy Residency Road and affected traffic movement for a while,” said eye witnesses.
The injured have been identified as JVC president, Tariq Rasool and Fayaz Ahmad Dar from Tourism department. Fayaz was rushed to SHMS hospital.
Some protestors reached Press Enclave after giving a slip to Police and sat on a dharna.
JKCDWF chairman, SajadParray said the authorities should regularize the services of daily wagers without any further delay as, according to him, more than 56000 families were suffering due to the delay caused by authorities.
Parray said that they would continue to fight for their rights and if denied further, then “we will go for mass suicide.”
