Srinagar, Jan 23: The residents of PandithMohalla, Haft Chinar Friday staged protest demonstrations on Airport Road against the distribution of relief cheques among flood victims of the locality.
The protesters who blocked the busy road disrupting vehicular traffic demanded reassessment of losses suffered in the floods.
“Government had given us Rs 3800 cheque which is too less as my house is severely damaged and we are unable to live there,” said Sarfaraz Ahmad.
The protesters accused the concerned Patwari and the engineers who undertook the survey of having resorted to corruption. “We did not bribe them otherwise we would get Rs 75000 cheque,” said Nasir Ahmad Siraj.
The protesters led by president of Welfare Committee PandithMohalla, Zahoor Ahmad said they have been moving from pillar to post but to no avail.
The protesters were pacified by police and concerned Tehsildar Dr Haroon Rashid who said his office was open for reassessment of cases and that complainants should approach it.
