Srinagar, Feb 20: As most parts of Srinagar continue to remain inundated, the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Friday took stock of situation and directed officials to immediately dewater the roads and has warned them of action if there is a delay.
The Deputy Commissioner along with Joint Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation toured Samandar Bagh, Raj Bagh, Poloview, Lal Mandi areas to review the ongoing process of dewatering in these areas. “I have directed the concerned officers to install dewatering pumps in all water logged areas immediately and warned them that any laxity on this count would be stringently dealt with,” the official said.
From last many days the Srinagar city witnessed massive water logging as a result of continuous rain and snowfall. In most parts including commercial hub Lal Chowk, the over flow in drains raised the water level to one feet and people blamed Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) of failing to install the dewatering pumps.
There is almost one feet of water on the main roads of city centre Lal Chowk, Polo view, Bakshi Stadium Road, Jahangir Chowk, Magarmal Bagh and Saria Bala. The problem is frequent in these areas with slight showers with people blaming authorities for defunct drainage in Srinagar
