Have arrested the accused: Police
Massive protests were held in Budgam after one of the victims of 17 June ‘Budgam hit and run case’ succumbed, after doctors at SKIMS declared him having poly-trauma.
They were demanding arrest of accused driver Bashir Ahmad Dar S/O Abdul Rehamn Dar who hit 7 persons on 17 June near Imam Bara Budgam, resulting in serious injuries. All the seven injured were shifted to SMHS hospital and later five were discharged and three shifted to SKIMS as their injuries were said to be critical. According to eyewitness, the driver was drunk he managed to flee from the spot.
On Friday, one of the critical victims Haji Muhammad Bakir Bhat could not bear the pain and succumbed to his head injuries. As per the police report, the driver was drunk and drove his Wagon R car bearing number JK04B 0906 at very fast speed when he hit the victims.
Police had lodged an FIR No. 55/2015 against the driver for speedy driving, driving after drinking and escaping from the spot but the driver was successful to get anticipatory bail from a local court.
Police is said to have snatched two and a half bottles of liquor from the car also.
Talking to Rising Kashmir, Yusuf Abbas, son of deceased, said: “Imagine, a drunkard driver killed my father and got bail from the court because police acted lazy. We not only demand arrest of the driver but a stringent punishment to such a wayward persons.”
The list of the injured people include: Noor Muhammad Gojri, Showkat Hussain, Mohd Yusuf Bhat, Hilal Ahmad Malla, Sajid Hussain Bhat and Mahmood Malla. 892 people have died in road accidents in Kashmir Valley during the last three years.
Additional Superintendent of Police, Budgam, Javid Ahmad said, “We have arrested him after court cancelled his bail.”
