Nearly half a dozen of youth sitting on hunger strike in city’s Pratap Park were taken to SMHS hospital on Wednesday afternoon when they began to faint.
Doctors said the condition is stable now but they need continuous glucose drip to get energized.
President NYC, Asif Ali Bhat castigated the government for not making a single visit to the hunger strikers. “It is total shame for the government that not even a single person from neither civil administration nor from political party came to us today.”
He alleged the ambulance driver demanded Rs 300 from them.
After continuous “failure of government” to implement cabinet decision, hundreds of National Youth Corps (NYC) including large section of women had gathered in Pratap Park on Tuesday to begin their 72 hours hunger strike.
Central government had framed few special schemes for youth of J&K in 2010 summer unrest “to channelize their energy in nation building” and NYC was formed under Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
These were deployed in 2010 under scheme national youth Corps in state government departments but even after passing five years, their fate hangs in balance. Under this scheme, they were eligible to serve up to two years but later the government utilized them for other jobs on the same honorarium of Rs 2500 per month.
On 22 October 2014, Omar government had passed a cabinet order no 192/CIR/2014 and then secretary education vide order number 737-EDU/2014 to engage 6000 NYC as contingent workers in schools department against vacancies created in newly 800 upgraded schools.
