MLA Langate, Er Rashid is starting a signature campaign in all districts of Kashmir valley before finally presenting a bill in the legislative assembly against beef ban.
The aim of the signature campaign, he said, would be to build a social pressure on the local Muslim MLAs to support the bill.
Rashid said he would start signature campaign on Friday from north Kashmir district of Kupwara. “Sajad Lone is first a Muslim, then a Kashmiri and then a BJP man so I appeal him also to support the bill.”
On September 19, the signature campaign will reach Srinagar and Baramulla districts; September 20 in Shopian and Pulwama; September 21 in Anantnag and Kulgam; September 22 in Budgam and Ganderbal and September 23 in Bandipore.
Rashid has planned to stage a peaceful sit-in against the ban on October 3 when the state legislature session would begin at Srinagar.
He would present his private members bill to delete Section 298 A and B on October 11. “If government would bring the bill on the subject, then I am ready to withdraw my bill.”
To amplify the message, he would also create a facebook page. Rashid has appealed all Muslim MLAs cutting across party lines to support “this religious and fundamental issue”.
“Even the high court said if law is passed in Assembly against it, ban would be repealed.”
Rashid had earlier filed a PIL against beef ban in high court which was rejected. “It was rejected. Registrar told me the reason is I am a lawmaker. But I thank Prof Afzal Qadri.”
“What people did on Friday against beef ban, we have legal option also. BJP should also understand that our rights should not be suppressed,” he said.
“If there is no problem with wine and dog meat in North-East why should there be a problem in eating beef? Muslims never eat beef to make Hindus feel bad. When Muslims can lift Amarnath yatris on shoulders which is unislamic then why there should be a problem with beef meat?” Rashid questioned. email@example.com
